How To Take Another Step, When It Feels Like You Can’t Go On

Though I walk in the midst of trouble,

You will revive me; You will stretch out

Your hand Against the wrath of my enemies,

And Your right hand will save me.

Psalm 138:7

I am currently dealing with some major fatigue and lack of energy issues. My doctor has begun checking things out, but so far no new revelations. Though I am still able to pull myself out of bed, my body screams, “Why?” On top of this, I still have my back issues, Fibromyalgia and arthritis, which the weather is making worse. Some days I don’t want to take another step, when I have barely begun my day. But I live alone and some things have to get done. I don’t have a choice.

In light of your own hardships I know mine might seem pretty simple. Though I have been living with them for over thirty years now; many of you have been born with physical challenges or illnesses. For others of you, health may not be the problem. There is so much that can go wrong with us, with our lives. We all struggle at some point with things that threaten to break us, that want to stop us in our tracks. Makes us think we can’t take another step while weighed down like we are.

Uphold my steps in Your paths,

That my footsteps may not slip.

Psalm 17:5

How do you handle times like these? I don’t mean my physical problems exactly; but when you feel like life has thrown the book at you, when the bills keep piling up and the job hasn’t come through; when the loss of your loved one is strangling you and you feel like you can’t even breath. When you can’t take another step, not one.

Cause me to hear Your loving-kindness in the morning, For in You do I trust; Cause me to know the way in which I should walk,

For I lift up my soul to You.

Psalm 143:8

So far I have been able to keep up with my bible study and prayer time. A few days that is the most that I accomplished, which I feel is great, as those two things mean a lot to me. I have been having a harder time concentrating, but I keep at it, pushing through. Being in His word feeds our spirit, which we need daily. The nourishment we gain from spending time with Him is meant to strengthen us and help us grow.

The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

Isaiah 58:11

Through prayer I know God is guiding me and giving me strength. Lifting up others to Him helps free my mind of my own troubles. Letting God hear my pleas and supplications for the needs of my family and friends, show that I can still have compassion even while hurting. Except, compared to what others are experiencing, my health issues (though important to me) end up seeming a lot less serious. I can praise Him for that. Praying for others helps remind us of the blessings we do have.

He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps.

Psalm 40:2

When I can’t go on, I still feel His comfort. I know I am not alone. Sometimes, God brings us hardships to get us to stop what we’re doing, to check our position/relationship with Him. See if it is on the right path. Sometimes things just happen as a part of life. But if that is the case, He is still with us, guiding us, waiting for us to ask for His strength and wisdom.

You enlarged my path under me;
So my feet did not slip.

2 Samuel 22:37

At times like these, no matter how we feel, we can still choose to have joy in the Lord. We can dwell on the good He has done and is doing in our lives. As believers we need to do our best to stay positive. We are breathing right? We woke up today, so our life does have a purpose. Even though it may not seem like it, God does have a plan for you and believe it or not, it is for your good. We need to seek out His will. When we do so, He will show us and He will hold our hand as we take the necessary steps to get there.

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way.
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down;
For the Lord upholds him with His hand.

Psalm 37:23-24

There is a light at the end of the tunnel. God promises to be the light for our path. In biblical times, the lamps they used barely lit their way ahead. It is those lamps God meant when He said He would be our light. We are meant to depend upon Him, keep our focus on Him as we see where His light leads us. We don’t have to worry about what’s ahead as long as we know where to put our foot for the next step. We don’t need to see far ahead, just where our foot needs to land next. So trust Him and take that next step. He will be there too.

…To give light to those who sit in darkness

and the shadow of death,

To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Luke 1:79

You will show me the path of life;

In Your presence is fullness of joy;

At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Psalm 16:11

Until next time, God bless.
